I have the capability to ferment (3) vessels at 11-12 gallons each and I had an idea how to ferment them all three at different temps and with a little brain-storming help from my buddy, this is what I came up with.

15 cu. ft. chest freezer. I use the DIY reptile heat tape from Reptile Basics to heat the other two fermentors.

See my 33 Gallons of Fermentation Space thread.

Okay I remember your build for this and at first I was wondering how you were going to do three in one freezer.

Is this how you are going to do it - the lowest temperature requested will turn on the freezer while the heat tape will warm up the other two? Hard to tell with the 6 outlets vs. 4 items to power.

Thanks!

Very interesting. I like the idea of this.

Be curious to see how this turns out.

The master controller will run in true 2 stage operation. The other two controllers will only heat the drums on an as-needed basis.

I won't always combine lager and ale. I just wanted to rest it in the worst-case scenario.

Thats a pretty interesting idea. I have always used one chamber per fermenter - i never thought of heating fermenters individually with one constant cold source. How much variability do you expect to have between fermenters? For most of our Ales they start @ 67F and end up around 72F. That would probably be fine, but then you probably couldn't cold crash your beer down to 37F while another beer is finishing up at 72F - could you?

Using one freezer for three different beers on different schedules sounds fantastic and might change my plans for a ferm chamber.

Well, the most I've had going in there at any one time was 2. However... that said... One was an ale in active fermentation at 65, and the other was a lager that was lagering at 38*F. I don't see why you couldn't cold crash with it. I plan on just removing the temp probe from one and putting it down another thermowell for the "Master" controller. It is so easy to swap temp probes with the use of these larger thermowells...
