Part of getting the brewery up and running I had to replace my panel with a 200 AMP panel. The electrician talked about a 50 AMP breaker connected to a wire labeled "kenal".

Its left in the off position but I have no idea were it goes. The only odd plug I have in the house is this:

https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B19484Z50BvbbTRJNm9JRXk0NGs

I cant really find any info on it. Anybody have any idea what this is? What can be called Kenal and take a 50 AMP 2 pole?

I can somewhat make out a sense of scale on this thing... picture with a ruler or tape measure would be great!

That said--This thing does not look NEAR substantial enough to handle 240V 50A.

Its hard to get a good pic its in the master bedroom and low to the floor. I found the 50 AMP actually goes to the Range (kitchen). Not sure why it was labeled Kenal (just got the electric upgraded today). But still wonder what this plug is actually for.

I have to go back through and relabel everything as the labeling on the old panel was not right.

Looks like it may have been something like an antenna plugfrom back in the day. Can you put a multi meter in it to see if it is carrying wmf juice?

Where is the world are you located? Maybe it's not english?

(I tried google translate and "Kenal" means "know" in indonesian so that's obviously not it). Wink

I'm in the USA, Maryland right next to Washington DC.

Nobody has ever been able to figure out what this plug is. I could not get a stable volt reading from it, it kept jumping around but always 0.75 or less Volts. I think my leads are not long enough to get a good connection.

The house was built in 1978.

the line labeled "Kenal" actual lead to the Range oven. My guess is that its just an abbreviation when it was being put in. Kitchen Electrical (something something).

So whatever this plug is, its on a different line.

Is that a bell in the middle? If so, I'm guessing it's for a phone.

Would make sense with the low voltage.

It's an old 4 prong phone jack.

Here is another one.

Do a google search for "old phone 4 prong jack" and look at the images. There are all sorts of adapters for it.

EDIT: Oops - someone beat me to it!

It's hard to tell from the pictures as they're blurry, but is that a bell symbol right in the middle?

That's an old phone plug. The fact that the 4 pins are not evenly spaced is the tell-tale sign. Before they went to modular jacks phone plugs looked like what you have there.

Your phone would have a plug on it like this:
