If this was on my to do list of things in life I'd definitely have it scratched off by now. I quit my job and joined the Canadian Coast Guard on July 19th when they called me on short notice July 17th wondering if I'd be interested in going on an Arctic expedition, to which I said yes. I missed a wedding and have to skip the 15 day trip to Orlando with friends Sept 1st. So, here I am working my way North through the Northwest Passage in Canada's flagship of the fleet, the Louis S St. Laurent, the same vessel that went to the North Pole with the US in 1994.

It was over 20C here today in Coppermine, although there is no berth to go ashore, helicopter only. It was a good day for crew change. Myself, I'm staying on board for another 6 weeks per request of the captain then we're headed out into the Beaufort Sea with 30 new scientists that showed up today as well.

Hopefully these FB linked photos work for most everyone:

Unlike the USCG we don't have a dry ship so I can definitely enjoy a pint or two or more each night. Mug

Wow man... Some seriously good photos there! Good for you for serving your country and accepting the call. Thank you... (even though I am not Canadian)
I heard there was a High Pressure weather pattern stuck up over Greenland and the Arctic. Caused 97% of Greenland's ice cap to melt. Apparently it happens about every 150 years or so... it's crazy how weather is cyclical on this planet. We may not notice it because it is such a LONG cycle, but a cycle it is none-the-less...

Wish I could see some of those sights some day... Bucket List.
