I've never bought any pre-made all-grain kits. To me, I'm not sure they make sense since how do they know how much grain to provide? They don't! So they err on the side of caution and assume that your efficiency is low (probably 65%).
The good news is that if you buy two of these kits and combine them, you'd have almost exactly enough grain to make 3 (not 2) batches using our 95% efficient electric brewery setup.
I buy my grain and hops in bulk. You save a *ton* of money doing this. For the same price as one 5 gallon kit (12 lbs) you can almost buy an entire 50-55lb sack of grain.

Edit: Looking at that kit that comes with 12 lbs of grain and makes 5 gallons of 1.048-1.052 OG beer, when I plug in those numbers I only get around 60% efficiency! Wow, that's low! 2 days ago I used 17.7 lbs to make 12 gallons of 1.050 OG beer! So you could most certainly buy two of the kits and make 15 gallons (not 10) if you used the setup on this site.

Thanks for "fixing" the link, Kal.
Buying grain in bulk is on my "to do" list.

Going to pick up all my stuff from the freight company next wednesday! Fantastic. I started planning this just a few days before new year (when I first found this site) so very eager to get started building!

Thanks! I look forward to building, but I'm also a little fearful. Some guys have had real trouble with the SS tubing, or blowing the transformers. I don't have any local suppliers, so I get one shot at this. Knowing me, I'm probably going to make a mistake somewhere - I just hope it's one that's not a showstopper!
I mean, the brew stand wasn't so complicated, yet I still managed to drill a hole in the wrong place!

the things that caused the most anxiety were plugging in for the first time.. i checked my wiring three times with a multimeter and everything worked perfectly.. and the thing that i dreaded the most was cutting the holes in the kettles and that was one of the easiest things after all.
