Hi,

concerning the power supply to the V and A meters.
instead of the two stepdown transformers that take your (Kal's) 120 V down to 12 V (and then into the variable AC-DC transformers), could I use this ring core transformer that I have lying around?

https://www.elfaelektronikk.no/elfa3~no_en/elfa/init.do?item=56-136-17&toc=18841
https://www1.elfa.se/data1/wwwroot/assets/datasheets/05613617.pdf

It takes 240 V as input and outputs 2x 12 Volts.
will that work or is there some issue that I dont know about?

thanks for advice

If the outputs are truly isolated from each other (which they appear to be) then yes, it should work just fine.

Torroidal transformers are usually used where good response/instantaneous current is required. Such as high quality audio power amps and are usually pretty big. They're very expensive however and complete overkill for powering the amp/volt meter. Seems a shame to use them that way. The one you list sells for $399!

I know its overkill, but its around anyway so it might as well be used.
399 is a bit too much though. they are about 50 usd plus tax here in Norway, and this is an expensive country. shouldnt be that much on your side of the ocean.

the two outputs are isolated indeed so should be okthen. i just got concerned reading your note on having broken those meters upon the first try on common ground.

btw, receptables are the only thing missing here, and the enclosure itself. should be a done project at the end of this month.

will be exciting to plug in that box to the power circuit Smile

Yup. if you already have it and have no other use for it, I would go for it.

I love toroidal transformers... the best audio power amps in the world typically use them.
